Breaking down the law of attraction and its relation to certainty

The law of attraction is about belief. If you whole heartedly believe in something, the world has a way of making your beliefs a reality. Those who are religious often relate the law of attraction to god because belief and faith are very closely tied together.

Belief and faith are also related to certainty.

The law of… certainty

“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t—you’re right.” -Henry Ford

It turns out that certainty is powerful concept that can help push you down the path you need to take in order to achieve goals, succeed, and do things people might not have thought were possible.

Here is my paraphrased version of something I saw Tony Robbins say in a video that explains why becoming certain with results you are trying to achieve actually works…

The vast majority of people all have the same potential. The difference between those who tap into their full potential and those who don’t is certainty. When you become certain of something, you tend to take a high level of action. Taking a high level of action tends to lead to a high level of results. When you achieve a high level of results, this reinforces your certainty and challenges you to tap into even more potential.

This cycle builds a positive momentum, and could very well be one of the reasons why the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

The poison that is doubt and uncertainty

Let’s look at the other side of things. If you’re uncertain a goal can be achieved, you’ll be unlikely to take a lot action. Your lack of action will likely lead to poor results. When you get poor results, it will just validate your uncertainty and will naturally make you tap into less of your potential.

This doubt and uncertainty feeds on itself and before you know it you are in a major negative momentum swing that absolutely destroys your chances of achieving anything you thought you’d like to achieve.

Uncertainty is one of the biggest barriers to achieving a high level of results. It’s like termites that eat away at the foundation of a strong building. Even if you normally think positive and have strong beliefs, uncertainty is a poison in your life that must be removed.

Removing Doubt

I believe the vast majority of people are meant to accomplish things they didn’t know was possible. Kyle Maynard reminds us of this. Even without arms OR legs, he managed to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Metaphorically speaking, we were meant to fly… but doubt is like a root that grows into the soil and keeps us from ever leaving the ground.

The roots of self doubt and uncertainty can grow and become strong for a number of reasons…

  1. Fear – You are afraid of making a mistake, being judged, or failing.
  2. The fear of others – Well meaning friends and family can often be a source of self doubt. They inadvertently feed your doubt by trying to prevent you from making a mistake or failing.
  3. Comparing yourself to others – You might look at others who achieve high levels of success and believe they are, for some reason, special. They are smarter, more energetic, have better connections or more money, etc. You don’t play the game because you simply don’t think you have what it takes to win.

You can attempt to conquer self doubt first by recognizing it. Notice when you are experiencing doubt, and call it what it is. Once you have acknowledged your feelings, examine it. How strong are your feelings of doubt and how might these feelings benefit you? As an example, is it going to prevent you from embarrassing or injuring yourself? Now examine the pros you might experience by removing the doubt you have and taking action. Weigh the pros and cons, and make an informed decision. Remember that thoughts are just thoughts. Feelings are just feelings. They are not necessarily fact.  If you accept thoughts and feelings as fact, you might never be able to free yourself from the roots of doubt.

No matter what you want to call it, embrace it

Call it anything you want to call it. Perhaps you believe in the power of positive thinking. You just want to sit back, and constantly picture the results you seek in your head, as if it has already happened. You might want to have faith that god is at the wheel, and will lead you this same result. Or, you might just want to build the positive momentum that a certain mindset can help you build.

In any case, completely wrap your arms around and embrace it. Just train yourself to believe. Know that it is completely within your control to accomplish the things you want to accomplish.

Reality Check

Even if you don’t seem to achieve the results you wanted in the timeframe you were expecting, understand that you are never farther away from your goals by practicing certainty. Even when you tap into your full potential, it is entirely possible you will experience failure. Just remember that past failures are what will help mold your future success. If you never experience failure, you will never move closer to success.
